Methods of orthodontic treatment using localized energy. The methods may include determining that one or more of a patient's teeth are off track from a treatment plan based on one or more discrepancies between a current virtual model and a target virtual model. The current virtual model may be based on image(s) taken of the patient's teeth during a stage of orthodontic treatment. The methods may also include modifying the treatment plan by implementing local energy radiation to a region of the patient's dental arch. The local energy radiation may be configured to accelerate repositioning of the one or more of the patient's teeth and to put the one or more of the patient's teeth on track according to the treatment plan.

A radiation shield assembly is described, configured to block radiation emanating from a radiation source from reaching a user. Two shields are supported by a support arm, and are configured to rotate and translate relative to one another about the support arm's longitudinal axis. This allows the shield to be easily configured and reconfigured as necessary to visualize various parts of a patient's body via radiography.

A system and method are provided for low probability of detection (LPD) covert radar/lidar detection. A transmitter transmits a broadband light that is in a solar-radiation spectrum, and the broadband light is modulated using a constant amplitude modulation scheme such as M-ary phase shift keying (PSK), which makes the transmitted signal difficult to distinguish the signal from the background radiation. The radar return light from a target is collected and the target is detected by a cross-correlation calculation between the received light and the modulation pattern used to encode the transmitted signal. Further, in a turbulent environment, adaptive optics can be used to improve the detection probability.

A system and method are provided for low probability to intercept (LPI) free-space optical (FSO) communications. A transmitter transmits a broadband light (e.g., but not limited to a full width half maximum of 10 nm or more) that is in a solar-radiation spectrum, and the broadband light is modulated using a modulation scheme (e.g., binary phase shift keying). The modulated light encodes a data packet that includes a header and a codeword generated using an error correction code. After propagating through an FSO channel, the receiver collects the transmitted modulated light and used one or more balanced detectors heterodyne detectors at different center wavelengths to convert the received light to respective RF signals, which are then processed to recover the information data encoded in the codeword.
