    A laser surgery system includes a light source, an eye interface device, a scanning assembly, a confocal detection assembly and preferably a confocal bypass assembly. The light source generates an electromagnetic beam. The scanning assembly scans a focal point of the electromagnetic beam to different locations within the eye. An optical path propagates the electromagnetic beam from a light source to the focal point, and also propagates a portion of the electromagnetic beam reflected from the focal point location back along at least a portion of the optical path. The optical path includes an optical element associated with a confocal detection assembly that diverts a portion of the reflected electromagnetic radiation to a sensor. The sensor generates an intensity signal indicative of intensity the electromagnetic beam reflected from the focal point location. The confocal bypass assembly reversibly diverts the electromagnetic beam along a diversion optical path around the optical element.

    A method for detecting a component including a concealed pattern includes: detecting infrared electromagnetic radiation reflected or emitted by a component including a first pattern, the component including: a substrate; the first pattern disposed over at least a portion of the substrate; an optional primer layer disposed between at least a portion of the substrate and at least a portion of the first pattern; and a first visibly opaque layer including an infrared transparent pigment, the first visibly opaque layer disposed over at least a portion of the first pattern; and comparing the reflectivity and/or absorbance of infrared electromagnetic radiation by the first pattern at one wavelength to the reflectivity and/or absorbance by the primer layer and/or the substrate at the same wavelength.

The system redirects solar radiation using a masted heliostat array. The face of the array is composed of independently actuated concentrating mirrors which form a variable focal position Fresnel reflector.     Apparatuses and methods as described herein can be used to help stabilize the gain of a semiconductor-based photomultiplier. In an embodiment, an apparatus can include a semiconductor-based photomultiplier. The apparatus can be configured to maintain a constant voltage output of between +/−0.002% and +/−15% of a breakdown voltage. A method for stabilizing a radiation detection device can include determining a breakdown voltage of a light source. The light source can be optically coupled to a silicon photomultiplier. The method can also include measuring a plurality of light outputs of the light source provided over a temperature range of 70 degrees and generating an individualized look-up table for the light source based on the measured plurality of light outputs over the said temperature range.

    A molten salt reactor system includes a fluid level control system configured to circulate a molten salt through a molten salt loop including an experimental tank, a sump tank, and a drain tank. The fluid level control system further includes a plurality of level sensors, pressure transducers, and electronic pressure regulators fluidically coupled with the fuel salt system. The fluid level control system is configured to receive cover gas pressures in the headspaces of the tanks and calculate target fluid height setpoints for each of the tanks. The fluid level control system further invokes the electronic pressure regulator to iteratively adjust the cover gas pressures of the tanks to achieve and maintain a target fluid level in the experimental tank.

    An automatically adjusting seismic restraint system for nuclear fuel storage in one embodiment comprises a free-standing first fuel storage component (FSC) configured to contain nuclear fuel, and a stationary second FSC configured to receive the first fuel storage component. An inter-body gap formed between the FSCs includes at least one seismic restraint assembly. The assembly includes a stationary wedge member fixedly coupled to the second FSC and a movable loose wedge member engaged with and supported in place by the stationary wedge member. The stationary wedge member defines an inclined load bearing surface slideably engaged with a mating inclined load bearing surface of the loose wedge member. During a seismic event or thermal expansion of the first FSC, the first FSC moves towards the second FSC which shrinks the inter-body gap and the loose wedge member is vertically displaced relative to the stationary wedge member while maintaining engagement therewith.

    Various aspects as described herein are directed to a radiative cooling apparatuses and methods for cooling an object. As consistent with one or more embodiments, a radiative cooling apparatus includes an arrangement of a plurality of different material located at different depths along a depth dimension relative to the object. The plurality of different material includes a solar spectrum reflecting portion configured and arranged to suppress light modes, thereby inhibiting coupling of the incoming electromagnetic radiation, of at least some wavelengths in the solar spectrum, to the object at a range of angles of incidence relative to the depth dimension. Further, the plurality of material includes a thermally-emissive arrangement configured and arranged to facilitate, simultaneously with the inhibiting coupling of the incoming electromagnetic radiation, the thermally-generated electromagnetic emissions from the object at the range of angles of incidence and in mid-IR wavelengths.

    An intelligent anesthetization system for transperineal prostate puncturing based on multimodal medical images is provided. The system includes a coordinate system definition module, a markup of MRI sequence image and 3D reconstruction module, an ultrasonic data extraction module, a registration module and an anesthetic planning module. This system transforms images in the preoperative nuclear magnetic imaging coordinate system as well as the target area of anesthetization into real-time electromagnetic emitter coordinate system through multimodal medical image registration, thereby realizing the comprehensive fusion of the target area of anesthetization in nuclear magnetic resonance image and ultrasonic image, which can be used for medical teaching or surgical guidance and can help to achieve precise positioning of anesthetized area for transperineal prostate biopsy.
