France and Sweden have signed a declaration of intent to develop long-term cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

The European Council and Parliament have reached a provisional agreement to reform the European Union's electricity market design. The agreement now needs to be endorsed and formally adopted by both institutions.

A final agreement has been signed between the Belgian government and French utility Engie to extend the operation of the Tihange 3 and Doel 4 nuclear power reactors by 10 years and on all obligations related to radioactive waste.

As the second unit at the Koeberg nuclear power plant goes offline for an extended maintenance outage, South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has confirmed it will go ahead with the procurement of 2500 MWe of new nuclear capacity with plans to issue requests for proposals by March 2024.

Sweden's parliament has approved a bill that will clear the way for new nuclear power in the country by removing the current limit on the number of nuclear reactors in operation, as well as allowing reactors to be built on new sites. The amendment will enter into force on 1 January.

A new Clean Energy Partnership between the UK and South Korea, together with nine memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in nuclear energy, have been signed during a state visit by Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to the UK. The construction of Korean-designed reactors in the UK will be considered.

Sri Lanka's government intends to include nuclear energy in its long-term plans, the country's Minister of Power and Energy said as the country's cabinet approved electricity sector reforms.

The USA and the Philippines have signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement - known as a 123 Agreement - that will allow the transfer of nuclear energy-related materials and components between the two countries.

The Swedish government unveils a roadmap which envisages the construction of new nuclear generating capacity equivalent to at least two large-scale reactors by 2035, with up to ten new large-scale reactors coming online by 2045.
