The French government and state-owned EDF have reached an agreement to regulate the price at which the utility's nuclear-generated electricity is sold to an average of EUR70 (USD76) per MWh once the current ARENH mechanism expires at the end of 2025.

Governor JB Pritzker has said he will sign a new bill lifting Illinois' ban on the construction of new nuclear reactors, after the state's lawmakers passed new legislation that will allow the construction of small modular reactors of up to 300 MWe capacity from 2026.

In response to calls from the nuclear industry, research community and nuclear safety regulators, the European Commission will establish an Industrial Alliance dedicated to small modular reactors in early 2024, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson has announced.

France and Kazakhstan have pledged cooperation on minerals and the nuclear fuel cycle, while in Uzbekistan there was agreement to raise the level of bilateral relations, during official visits by President Emmanuel Macron this week. The French president was accompanied by a large delegation including representatives from French industry.

Following months of negotiations, the European Council has reached an agreement on a proposal to amend the EU's electricity market design, agreeing to include existing nuclear plants in the reform. The agreement could result in France dropping a scheme forcing state-controlled utility EDF to sell a portion of its nuclear energy production to competitors below market-level prices.

A strategic partnership has been signed between the UK and Sweden aimed at "reinvigorated and deepened cooperation across the bilateral relationship, including on security and defence, innovation, science, energy and climate, people to people and trade and investment". It includes cooperation on nuclear reactor technologies, including small modular reactors, and diversifying nuclear fuel supplies.

France and Brazil are looking to "rebuild cooperation" in the energy sector with an emphasis on nuclear energy, after energy ministers from the two countries held talks in Paris.

Argentina's National Atomic Energy Commission and Brazil's National Nuclear Energy Commission have signed a memorandum of understanding which they say will strengthen their on-going collaboration in the area of peaceful uses of nuclear technology relating to their planned new research reactors.

A bill to amend Sweden's legislation on nuclear power has been introduced by the country's government in parliament. It aims to remove the current law limiting the number of reactors in operation to ten, as well as allowing reactors to be built on new sites, rather than just existing ones.

Representatives of the nuclear industry in OECD nations, and representatives of the governments of 20 countries, have issued communiqués committing to work together to expand nuclear energy capacity, after the inaugural Roadmaps to New Nuclear conference organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and the French government.
