This year’s PNRI (Philippine Nuclear Research Institute) organized ‘Atomic Energy Week’ gained a greater recognition than ever not only from the local nuclear-related organizations but also from government and the public. This year marked the 32nd anniversary of ‘Atomic Energy Week’. On this meaningful occasion (6-10 Dec. 04), the country’s President Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo extended warmest congratulations and wished PNRI to further services and research and development for the greater good of the people.
The annual event dates back to early 1970s in an effort to promote a better understanding about peaceful nuclear uses in the country. This year’s theme was ‘Nuclear Safety and Security: Towards National Stability’. The technical conference on ‘Strengthening the Nation’s Regulatory Infrastructure’ was highlighted. The conference particularly stressed the safety of radioactive materials and facilities.
Dr Alumanda Dela Rose, Director, PNRI (National RCA Representative of the Philippines) encouraged PNRI staff including other stakeholders to keep on doing what is best and most appropriate in achieving the highest possible standard of safety so that the nation’s peaceful nuclear programme can obtain wider acceptance from the public at large.
