On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of KAERI's HANARO operation, an international symposium on research reactor and neutron source, or simply 'HANARO 2005' will be held at Daeduk Convention Town in Daejeon and at KAERI during 11-13 April 2005. This significant event is jointly organized by KAERI and the Korean Nuclear Society (KNS).
At the symposium, it is anticipated that some 60 distinctive reactor scientists and engineers from abroad, in addition to the local participation, will participate and make presentations on the latest progresses in research reactor operation and utilization. Dr Ferenc Mezei, the inventor of the super-mirror guide, and Dr Michael Rowe, the first Clifford Shull Prize Winner will be among others to make invited special presentations. In connection with this international symposium, other significant academic meetings will also convene which include the 5th Japan-Korea Neutron Scattering Meeting and the 2nd Japan-Korea Neutron Radiography Workshop, and the International Workshop on University Reactors. The symposium and academic meetings will focus on how to best use multi-purpose research reactors, like HANARO.

It is noted that Korea, embracing the 30 MWt class of HANARO research reactor with various state-of-the-art facilities, is the Lead Country for IAEA/RCA Thematic Sector on Research Reactor Utilization since 1998.
