IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course for Regulators on Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities will be held in early August this year in Singapore in cooperation with the Health Science Authority of Singapore. IAEA has assisted its Member States in establishing or improving their radiation safety infrastructure and the controlling system of radiation sources through a suitable regulatory framework over the past years.

However, it was reported that necessary expertise to establish and operate an effective regulatory programme and also substantial support for such endeavors are not sufficient in many RCA Member States. In order to complement these phenomena, the IAEA has developed a “Strategic Approach to Education and Training in Radiation and Waste Safety” since 2001.

In this training course, focus will be made on building up competence and expertise necessary to national regulator authorities for the establishment and operation of an adequate regulator programme in controlling of cyclotron facilities. Moreover, the regulatory programme shall be in accordance with the principles, requirements and recommendations of International Standards. Practical experiences such as the system of notification, authorization and inspection of cyclotron facilities are also expected to be covered.
