A Cobalt-60 radiotherapy unit was formally handed over from KIRAMS to 103 Hospital in Hanoi in cooperation with RCARO and VAEC (Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission). On this occasion, a ceremony was held on 13 June 2005 at 103 Hospital. On behalf of RCARO, Mr Kun-Mo Choi, Director, made a congratulatory address at the ceremony wishing the unit would contribute to the better human health activities in Vietnam. On behalf of VAEC, Mr Vuong Huu Tan, Chairman, delivered a charge on the meaningful RCARO programme that will benefit for treating cancer patients in the country.

The KIRAMS (Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences), under the direction of Dr S Y Yoo, has been implementing transfer of a Co-60 radiotherapy unit from 2003 with the support from RCARO in an effort to assist RCA Member State in their cancer treatment endeavors. The unit was shipped to Hanoi in late 2004 and finally installed in April 2005 at the 103 Hospital, a national radiological hospital in Viet Nam, on the recommendation by VAEC. After intensive test operation, the unit is now fully operable.
