The future perspective of RCARO was brainstormed at the RCARO Strategic Workshop that was held in 7-9 June 2005 at Jeju Island of Korea. The Workshop aimed at enlightening RCARO roles and responsibilities as the RCARO entered into full operation after the 3 years of interim operation as of April 2005. Invited experts from RCA Member States and from IAEA advised future RCARO strategies, in particular on how to enhance visibility and viability of RCA, that would help fulfilling its mandate given by the RCA Member States to RCARO.
The invited experts who have long association with RCA business devised necessary strategies that require by RCARO for functioning properly in the full operation status. It is noted that since its inception in March 2002, the RCARO has been operated in interim operation mainly for making legal provisions necessary for functioning locally. It is also noted that the 27th RCA NRM held in April 2005 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, decided to extend RCARO beyond the interim period to full operation. The 27th RCA NRM also appointed a new RCARO Director.
The RCARO Strategic Workshop was so arranged to seek future direction of RCARO as it entered into full operation. Invited experts were Dr. John Easey (AUL, former RCA Coordinator), Dr. Carlito Aleta (PHI, former RCA Coordinator), Dr. Anil Anand (IND, former RCA National Representative of India), Dr. Alumanda dela Rosa (PHI, current RCA National Representative of the Philippines), Dr. Nahrul Khair Alang Md Rashid (MAL, current RCA National Representative of Malaysia and the current RCA Chair), Mr. Jong-bae Choi (current RCA National Representative of Korea), Dr. Prinath Dias (current RCA Coordinator) and Mr. Yong-Hwan Kim, Director General, Atomic Energy Bureau, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) on behalf of the host government of RCARO. Local participants were from the host government (MOST), KAERI, KINS, KIRAMS, academic circles, and RCARO staff including the Director, Mr. Kun-Mo Choi.
