IAEA/RCA Technical Meeting on "Harmonization of Regional NDT applying ISO 17024" will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 15-19 August 2005. The main objective of this meeting is to transfer knowledge of NDT technology and standards through establishing a core group of personnel among those trained and qualified in the RCA Member States.

The NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) technology is essentially needed for the improvement of the quality of industrial products, equipment and plants all over the world in particular in the developing countries. In this regards, IAEA has been promoting the industrial applications of radiation technology including DNT through various technical cooperation modalities such as regional cooperative projects and/or coordinated research projects.

The training course in Colombo will introduce the general concepts of modern radiation technologies and the possibility of applying these technologies to the related fields. Focus will be placed on reviewing the national certification system for NDT and the progress achieved so far. The basic requirements of ISO17024 and ISO9712 will be introduced as well.
