The Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, Kim Hak-Su, welcomed partnership between RCA and UNESCAP. At a meeting between UNESCAP Executive Secretary and Mr Kun-Mo Choi, RCARO Director on 13 July 2005 at Bangkok based UNESCAP office, the Executive Secretary expressed their intention to establish a partnership with RCA on mutually interested areas, such as air pollution and groundwater projects with particular emphasis on UNESCAP's yellow dust project. Mr Rae Kwon Chung, Director, Environment and Sustainable Development Division and other staff members of UNESCAP joined in the meeting.
Prior to the meeting between the UNESCAP Executive Secretary and RCARO Director, an introductory discussion among the relevant experts from both sides was held at UNESCAP office. At the meeting, RCARO introduced IAEA/RCA activities together with the roles and responsibilities of RCARO. IAEA Technical Officer and RCA Lead Country Coordinator for Environment also explained RCA's environment projects with emphasis on air pollution. UNESCAP explained their environment and sustainable development programmes with stress on yellow dust problem and groundwater contamination.
UNESCAP welcomed RCA's participation in the yellow dust project as an initiation for strengthening partnership. It was said that further details would be communicated between the relevant experts.
