Radiation oncology has widely been used to effectively manage common malignancies. RCA has been assisting Member States in strengthening national radiotherapy infrastructure through integration of educational activities and applied research activities into national development objectives in the field of radiotherapy. As part of this RCA effort, an IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Current Standards and Future Directions in Radiation Oncology will be held in 16-20 January 2006 in Manila, the Philippines.
The event is organized by the IAEA in cooperation with the Government of the Philippines through the Philippine Radiation Oncology Society and the American Society of Therapeutic and Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO).
The course will review the current scientific basis in the management of common malignancies using radiation oncology. Emphasis will be placed on the need of quality assurance in radiation oncology especially in patients' treatment set-ups, immobilization, verification and documentation. Common problems in radiation oncology specific to the Asia-Pacific region where resources for treatment are limited will also be discussed.
