IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on the Control of Radioactive Discharge to the Environment will be held in 5-9 June 2006 in Islamabad, Pakistan in cooperation with the Government of Pakistan through the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

The training course will primarily focus on, first, coming up with standardized approaches, techniques and methodology to ensure high standard of analysis for liquid and gaseous effluent released to the environment in the Member States, second, fostering exchanges of information on effluent monitoring and environmental assessment for liquid discharges, third, increasing skilled manpower and capabilities of the Member States in sampling and monitoring methods and impact assessment techniques of liquid and gaseous effluents, and finally, identifying potentials, shortcomings and gaps in the areas discussed for more effective technical support by the Agency to the Member States.

The IAEA/RCA has been actively promoting harmonization of radiation protection by carrying out the effluent and environmental monitoring of the facilities within the Member States in the region. In this connection, this training course is specially designed to cater for participants from countries that have facilities which discharge significant amount of liquid and gaseous waste into the environment. The training course will assist the participants from the RCA Member States in ensuring high standard of analysis of environmental samples and dose assessment.
