IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on ‘Radiation Biology for Radiation Oncology’ will be held at Chiba, Japan on 15-19 May 2006. The primary aim of the course is to improve knowledge in radiobiology necessary for the teaching of radiation oncology trainees in the understanding of biological mechanisms underpinning the clinical practice of radiotherapy, using conventional as well as modified and advanced treatments.
Radiation is used extensively in diagnostic procedures and in the treatment of malignant tumors. For the optimum use of radiation for these purposes, in current and developing protocols, a clear understanding and updated knowledge of radiation biology are essential. However, there are not enough qualified teaching staff in radiation biology in the Asia and Pacific region. Thus, the planned training course will help increase the number of knowledgeable people in this specialty are desirable in the long run.
