The 28th Meeting of National RCA Representatives was successfully held in 27-30 March 2006 at the Amari Boulevard Hotel in Bangkok. The Meeting was organized and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) of Thailand, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Meeting was attended by the National RCA Representatives of 17 RCA Member States, representatives from IAEA (Mr M Peter Salema, Director, Division for Asia and the Pacific; Mr M Prinath Dias, the RCA Focal Person) and RCARO (Mr Kun-Mo Choi, Director and the staff). The Meeting was officially opened by H.E. Dr Pravich Rattanapain, Minister of Science and Technology of Thailand.
The Meeting basically adopted the RCA Medium Term Strategy which will guide RCA governance and programmes in the near term period. A Working Group was tasked to develop further work plans for implementation. Among the RCARO related issues, the Meeting agreed that the RCA-UNDP (K) Post-tsunami environment impact assessment project would follow fast track mechanism in order to satisfy the donor's requirement.
The next Meeting of National RCA Representatives (the 29th) will be held in March 2007 in Sydney, Australia.
