IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course (RTC) on Radiation Risk Assessment will be held at ANSTO, Australia in 19-23 June 2006 in cooperation with the Government of Australia through the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organization (ANSTO).

RCA has been greatly endeavoring to improve national infrastructure and capacity for radiation protection of RCA Member States in the past many years and the event in June in Australia is reiterating the need to enhance the capacity of Member States to assess the consequences of accidental radioactive releases. Through this effort, it is expected that necessary countermeasures to minimize the radiation doses to the population when such accident occurs will be taken. Assessment of the consequences of radiological accident scenarios is quite necessary to take countermeasures to reduce the radiation doses to the affected populations. It is noted that models used for this purpose should be based on accurate atmospheric and transport parameters and appropriate factors related to dose calculations.

To this effect, the training course will mainly cover the development of source terms, how to introduce meteorology, atmospheric and aquatic dispersion process and provide an overview and practice in the use of mathematical radiological consequences models. The event was originally planned to be held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, but changed to ANSTO in Menai, Australia.
