IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course (RTC) on “Implementation of IAEA Technical Report Series (TRS) 430 in Quality Assurance for Radiotherapy Treatment Systems” will be held in 9-14 October 2006 in Hong Kong, China in cooperation with the Government of the People’s Republic of China through Department of Clinical Oncology, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Prince of Wales Hospital.

RCA has been endeavoring for the improvement in QA for frequent cancers in the region since many years ago and the training course will be so arranged to provide practical training in clinical treatment planning to improve the quality of delivery of radiation therapy to cancer patient. In summary, the objective of this training course can be explained to provide an in-depth knowledge of the requirements of quality assurance (QA) for computerized treatment planning systems (TPS) according to IAEA Technical Reports Series (TRS) - 430.

The Training Course will include deductive lectures and practical sessions by experts followed by discussions to allow for exchange of information and to seek solutions in quality assurance for TPS, which are suitable for the RCA MSs, covering the basic concepts of radiation therapy treatment planning and QA requirements as recommended in IAEA TRS-430. Practices will include clinical commissioning tests such as dose calculation with TPS for test cases, measurements with CIRS phantom at treatment machines, and comparison of measured and calculated data.
