Recently, the Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (MINT) was renamed as the Malaysian Nuclear Agency (or Nuclear Malaysia). This change was made as part of the country's endeavors to further promoting the peaceful applications of nuclear energy for socio-economic development.
MINT was established in 1972 as the Tun Islamic Atomic Research Center (PUSPATI). PUSPATI was later renamed as the Nuclear Energy Unit (UTN) in 1983 on being placed under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Department. In 1990, UTN was retransferred to the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, and assumed its new identity as MINT in 1994. After 10 more years of great progress, MINT was now renamed as Malaysian Nuclear Agency in order to further contributing to the nation's socio-economic development with its full capacity and potential.
