The 9th Congress of World Federation of Nuclear Medicine & Biology (WFNMB) held from 22 October 2006 for 6 days in Seoul, Korea enlightened again the role of nuclear medicine and biology for combating cancers and other diseases in line with the UN MDGs.

The 9th Congress of WFNMB with the theme of 'Global Harmonization and New Horizon of Nuclear Medicine' was attended by prominent nuclear medicine experts from around the world for discussion of such important topics as molecular imaging, radio-labeled antibody, radionuclide therapy, and so on. The Congress is the largest forum for nuclear medicine and biology in the world with the aim to function to pursue progress of nuclear medicine in the underdeveloped countries.

At the opening session on 23 Oct. 06 at COEX Conference Hall in Seoul, the Deputy Prime Minister for Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea, Dr Kim Woo-Sik said in his congratulatory address that the country will greatly endeavor the peaceful application of nuclear energy in human health in order to combat the cancers and other serious and inveterate diseases.

Dr Werner Burkart, Deputy Director General for Nuclear Sciences and Applications of the IAEA said in his keynote speech that the Agency would greatly place its emphasis on the 'Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy' (PACT) in an effort to contribute achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

In conjunction with the Congress, the IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Nuclear Oncological Application was held for 21-25 October 2006 at the Congress venue, Seoul National University Hospital and Korea University Hospital.
