IAEA/RCA Project Planning Meeting on Formulation of Sustainable Energy Development Strategies in the Context of Climate Changes will be held from 26 February to 2 March 2007 in Colombo, Sri Lanka in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka through the Atomic Energy Authority and the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Since sustainable energy development has been an issue of utmost contemporary significance for most RCA Member States in the Region, this Project Planning Meeting will be meaningful as well as helpful for Member States to endeavor to assess the implications of global climate change response for their sustainable energy development strategies. Accordingly, the Meeting will primarily be focusing on 1) discussing sustainable energy issues, opportunities and limitations for the energy sector under various possible frameworks for climate change, such as the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change adopted in 1997, 2) discussing and agreeing on scope and coverage of work under the project and 3) developing a realistic work plan in this regard.

Through this Meeting, a clear understanding and an agreed work plan for the project activities together with time-line for their completion will be gained among the national project coordinators about the scope of project and its expected outcomes
