Professor Dr Soedyartomo Seontono (affectionately known as Tommy), former Chairman of BATAN (National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia),unexpectedly passed away on 27 June 2007 after suffering from heart stroke during the international conference of the Women In Nuclear (WIN)-Global in Bali, Indonesia, the ANTARA News reported.
Professor Dr S. Seontono has served as Chairman of BATAN for more than 6 years contributing to the nation's peaceful nuclear research and development, in particular with regard to possible introduction of nuclear power programme (nuclear desalination plant) to the country. He has also served as a member of SAGNE, the Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy to the Director General of IAEA. Born in Central Java in 1946, Tommy obtained PhD degree in nuclear materials from University of Salvord, United Kingdom.
Tommy officially retired from the Chairman of BATAN in March 2007 and Dr Hudi Hastowo
succeeded him as the new Chairman.
