In cooperation with the Government of Bangladesh through Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, the IAEA/RCA National Project Coordinators’ Meeting to Review the Status of Medical Physics in the Region will be held on 26-28 May 2008, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The purpose of the meeting is to review the work of the RCA project on Strengthening Medical Physics through Education and Training in developing clinical training guides and to discuss the pilot implementation of this work currently in radiation oncology and later in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine.

As a result of activities previously undertaken under the project on Strengthening Medical Physics through Education and Training, drafting has been completed for a clinical training guide for medical physicists in radiation oncology. This was discussed at the regional meeting in Bangkok last year. Since then work has begun on a similar guide for diagnostic radiology, and a pilot programme has begun in Thailand for the radiation oncology medical physics clinical training guide. A number of countries have expressed interest in also being a test site for these programmes. It is therefore an opportune time to review the progress of the project with the help of perspective from the Member States, and to discuss the project’s future direction primarily for clinical training and also for other strategies designed to strengthen medical physics in the region.
