IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Portable Digital Industrial Radiography and Tomography Systems will be held in Bangi, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia on 3-7 November 2008 in cooperation with the Government of Malaysia through the Nuclear Energy of Malaysia.
This course will provide overall view of the subject of advanced Digital Industrial Radiology (DIR) and Computed Tomography (CT) both from theoretical as well as practical point of view. It will present a comparative study of various digital radiographic and tomographic systems. It will help the participants in appreciating the state of the art progress in the field of advanced digital radiographic methods and make decisions about how to proceed in their respective countries for developing and promoting this subject.
Specifically, activities of this course include: 1) review of conventional radiographic method using X-rays and gamma rays and the film, 2) basic digital method of film digitization and image processing using PC; needed hardware and software; exercise of accept/reject, 3) fluoroscopy; sequential development of fluoroscopic technique; image intensifiers and camera systems, 4) imaging plates; theory of image detection by imaging plates; basic radiography system using imaging plates; acquisition, storage, display and processing of data from imaging plates, 5) computed tomography system and its functioning; acquisition, storage, display and processing of data from material test specimens; present status of use of CT in industry, 6) introduction to on-going CRP of IAEA on DIR; participating Member States; groups of countries; programmes and assignments of each group; expected results from each group, and 7) relative study of DIR system; simplicity of use, cost, level of present day development and use in industry; advice to Member States how best to proceed for development of programmes in DIR in future.
