It was announced on 19 December 2008 that Dr Adrian Paterson was appointed as the next Chief Executive of Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) and he would commence his work at ANSTO on 1 March 2009. Through a period of organizational restructure, the National RCA Representative of Australia, Dr Ron Cameron, has filled the role since May 2008 as ANSTO’s acting Chief Executive and professionally managed ANSTO’s activities.
Dr Paterson is currently general manager, Business Development and Operations, at the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor Company in South Africa, and will relocate with his family to Sydney. It is expected that he would bring strong scientific credentials, especially in the field of materials science, wide experience in working with government and contributing to national policy development, attractive partnering and commercialization skills, and a successful history of technical leadership and organizational change.
