IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Quality Management of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) will be held on 31 August - 4 September 2009 in Beijing, China in collaboration with the Government of China through the Chinese Academy of Medical.

The purpose of the course is 1) to train attendees on improving the quality of PET practice by understanding the correct procedures and applications; 2) identifying the appropriate indications and standardizing reporting.

The RCA project RAS6049 is the successor of the project on “Tumor imaging Using Isotopes” (RAS6042). RAS/6/042 was focus on the improvement of clinical management of cancer patients through application of clinical PET and the current project, ARS/6/049 will focus on the other applications of clinical PET.

Medical imaging by means of PET can make a significant contribution for clinical management of patients by: 1) Evaluating viability of primary lesion, 2) Staging, 3) Selection of appropriate therapy, 4) Monitoring therapeutic efficacy, and 5) Discriminating recurrence of lesions from anatomical changes through therapies.
