IAEA Inter-regional Workshop on Radiation Protection for Cardiologists will be held in 3-4 March 2004 at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna. Some 10 participants, mostly medical professionals related with heart disease, from each Region including East Asia and the Pacific will convene to discuss extensive use of radiation by cardiologists in cardiac catheterization procedures. The Workshop will more specifically emphasize to create awareness among cardiologists on radiation protection issues so as to prevent radiation injuries. It is noted that at an RCA project formulation meeting on harmonization of radiation protection (Feb. 2003 in Hanoi) identified a regional training course on radiation protection for cardiologists would be necessary for the region and this inter-regional workshop could be a good opportunity to elevate the desire.
