The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) underlines this year various nuclear training courses for local participants. This year PNRI programmes 6 main training events for a broad range of target groups. Among them, training course on nuclear technology for university/college faculty members and seminar in nuclear science for high school teachers are highlighted. Both events are now being carried out at PNRI beginning from 12 April for a month. PNRI has been endeavoring promotion of peaceful nuclear applications throughout the country. The annual 'Atomic Energy Week' hosted by PNRI has been widely recognized by the population and the society for its efforts to promote a better understanding about nuclear energy to the public.
Other training courses that PNRI offers are; Radiological Health and Safety Course (June-July), Radioisotope Techniques Training Course - Medical (July-August), Training Course on Radioimmunoassay (September), and so on. The Seminar in Nuclear Science for High School Teachers will be organized in line with the IAEA and UNESCO's recognition of the need to raise the level of science education to improve the science curriculum in developing countries. It is expected that a close cooperation between nuclear scientists and school science educators will contribute greatly to the modernization of high school science courses.
