IAEA/RCA Meeting for Senior Managers on Benefits and Safety in Radioisotope Techniques for Problem Solving in Petroleum/Chemical Industry will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 13-17 September 2004. The main objective of the meeting is to create awareness on beneficial role of radioisotope techniques for problem solving in industry, including:
- Principles of major techniques
- Case studies on industrial radioisotope and applications
- Cost benefit analysis through case studies
- Safety in applications and prospects of the technology in RCA Member States
Radioactive tracers, radioisotope sealed sources and portable nucleonic gauges are largely applied for problem solving in petrochemical/chemical industries. The benefits derives from radioisotope application in industry are:
- Troubleshooting: RI technology is used to diagnose specific causes of inefficiency in plant of process operation bringing savings associated with plant shutdown minimization and loss prevention.
- Process optimization: RIs provide information that facilitates improvements either in the throughput or the product quality
