Mission Representatives of RCA Member States in Korea Toured Nuclear Installations in Daedeok Science Town | |||

RCARO arranged a tour programme for the diplomatic mission representatives of RCA Member States stationed in Korea on 12 May 2004. They visited the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), the KEPCO Nuclear Fuel Company (KNFC), and the Daedeok Science Town Operation Center. This one-day tour programme has been requested by the mission representatives of RCA Member States in order to promote understanding about Korea's nuclear research and development programmes, in particular the radiation application activities.
Mission representatives from the embassies of India, Mongolia, Indonesia, China, Sri Lanka, Singapore and so on toured KAERI's HANARO research reactor and radioisotope production facility. At KINS, they were briefed on national radiation emergency system and visited the environmental radiation monitoring and control facillity. At KNFC, the team toured the nuclear fuel manufacturing plants both for PWR and PHWR. At the Daedeok Science Town Operation Center, the visitors were explained about the overview of the Daedeok Science Town.
At the luncheon hosted by Mr Kim, Jin-Kyoung, Director, RCARO, the visitors were presented on the 26th Meeting of National RCA Representatives held in 12-15 April in Islamabad, Pakistan. RCARO plans to arrange another tour programme for the mission representatives to visit Korea's nuclear power related industries in the latter part of this year. The mission representatives expressed keen interest in the RCA programme including those of RCARO, such as the post-doc fellowship programme, the KAIST nuclear engineering master's degree course, the nuclear medicine internship programme, and the Workshop for RCA Working Level Staff of Member States scheduled to be held in 14-18 June 2004 at Daejeon.
