The IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on “The Role of Nuclear Power and Other Energy Options in Competitive Electricity Markets” began at INTEC (International Nuclear Training and Education Center) at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) in Daejeon, Korea on 7 June 2004. The course will last for two weeks ending on 18 June 2004.
The purposes of the training course are to provide training in the use of the advanced features of the IAEA’s energy model, MESSAGE and its application to country specific scenarios reflecting exogenous factors such as environmental impacts and the economic implications of energy/electricity market restructuring; to discuss the concepts and theory required for incorporating such external factors into energy and power sector analysis; and to discuss how to apply sound judgment about the choice of model and scenario structure most appropriate for addressing these issues.

A total 22 participants from CPR, IND, INS, ROK, MON, PAK, PHI, SRL, and VIE are joining the event while 5 lecturers including Mr. Kee-Yung Nam, Mr. Irej Jalal, Mr. Andrej Gritsevskyi from the IAEA will lead the training sessions during the course. The other lecturers are Mr. Manfred Strubegger from IRM Integriertes Ressourcen, Wien, and local lecturer Mr. Chae-young Lim of Nuclear Policy Research Div, KAERI.
