437 NPPs Operable Worldwide while 30 Units under Construction WNA 2004 Data show 16% World Electricity by Nuclear Energy | |||

A recent data released by WNA (World Nuclear Association) show that as of July 2004, a total of 437 nuclear power reactors are operable throughout the world sharing some 16% of world electricity generation. The report underlines that currently a total of 30 nuclear power reactors are under construction thus making a total of 467 nuclear power reactors operable worldwide when completed. (Source: WNA)
According to the WNA data, currently, 30 countries (not included Taiwan) have nuclear power reactors operable. Among them, 10 countries with most nuclear power reactors are; USA 103, France 59, Japan 54, Russia 30, UK 23, Korea 19, Germany 18, Canada 17, India 14 and Ukraine 13. Mainland China has 9 nuclear power reactors operable while Taiwan has 6 units. However, when we rank installed capacity, USA comes first followed by France, Japan, Russia, Germany, Korea, Canada and UK. WNA also says that a total of 32 units are on order or planned while 72 units are proposed.
