Regional Training Course on Utilization of Research Reactor
5 August to 12 September 2025

The Regional Training Course on Utilization of Research Reactor officially launched on 5 August 2025, as part of RCARO’s continued efforts to support human resource development in the RCA region. The course is jointly organized by the RCA Regional Office (RCARO) and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI).

This four-week training course aims to enhance the professional capabilities of RCA Government Parties (GPs) by providing essential knowledge of research reactor concepts and operations, hands-on experience in neutron beam utilisation and neutron activation analysis (NAA) using the HANARO research reactor, and by fostering regional cooperation and networking through team projects and participation in the 2025 International HANARO Symposium.

The programme follows a blended learning approach, consisting of three components:

- Online webinars to build foundational knowledge (5–14 August),

- Individual assignments to deepen understanding (14–29 August), and

- Face-to-face sessions to strengthen practical capabilities through hands-on training at KAERI (2–12 September).

The online opening ceremony on 5 August featured welcome remarks by Mr. Dae Ki Kim, Director of RCARO, and Mr. Ik Jeong, Director of the Nuclear Training & Education Center at KAERI. Director Kim highlighted the course’s relevance to practical needs in neutron beam applications, NAA, and radioisotope production, and encouraged participants to enhance their expertise and build regional networks.

The course will conclude with participants attending the 2025 International HANARO Symposium, offering a valuable platform to engage with experts and share experiences in the utilization of research reactors.
