Regional Training Course on On-site Application of Radiation Measurement and Radioanalytical Methods for Environment Monitoring
9-18 July 2025, Daejeon and Busan, Republic of Korea

The Regional Training Course on On-site Application of Radiation Measurement and Radioanalytical Methods for Environment Monitoring officially commenced on 9 July 2025 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. The training course is jointly organized by the RCA Regional Office (RCARO) in collaboration with the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), and with valued support from ASEAN.

This ten-day programme is designed to strengthen radiation safety and environmental monitoring capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together early- to mid-career professionals from ASEAN Member States. The course consists of a combination of lectures, laboratory training, and field exercises, offering a comprehensive learning experience.

The opening ceremony on 9 July at KRISS featured welcome remarks by Mr. Dae Ki Kim, Director of RCARO. He emphasized the course’s importance in enhancing regional safety through a blend of theory and practical training, including real-time monitoring in Busan. He encouraged participants to apply their learning in their home institutions.

The course includes hands-on training in gamma- and alpha-emitting radionuclide analysis, sample preparation, and spectrometry techniques. A distinctive feature of the programme is its on-site monitoring component in Busan, where participants conduct real-time radiation mapping using advanced mobile systems, and visit facilities including the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM).
