RCA Side-event, "RCA: Advancing Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region", was held on 17 September 2024, at the IAEA HQRCA Side-event RCA: Advancing Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region 17 September 2024, IAEA HQ As part of the 68th General Conference, a pivotal side event was held on 17 September 2024, bringing together delegates and experts to discuss and strategize on enhancing regional cooperation in nuclear science and technology across Asia and the Pacific. This event, titled “RCA: Advancing Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region”, gathered over 100 participants including the representatives from the RCA Government Parties, the IAEA, RCARO and other organizations and countries outside the region. Keynote speeches were delivered by Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, Mr Sang-Im YOO, Minister of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea, and Mr Jing LIU, Vice Chairman of China Atomc Energy Authority. This side event served as a dynamic forum for RCA stakeholders to discuss and share ideas on the Regional Cooperative Agreement’s (RCA) contributions to socio-economic development across the Asia-Pacific region. Key topics included the contribution of RCA to socio-economic development, creating synergies between the RCA programme and IAEA initiative, and strategies for future partnerships. Discussions during the event centered on the vital role that nuclear technology plays in addressing the region’s pressing challenges, including food security, human health, and environmental protection. By sharing experiences and insights, participants aimed to enhance the effectiveness and reach of nuclear applications in contributing to sustainable development across the region.

The 53rd RCA General Conference Meeting was held on 13 September 2024 in Vienna, AustriaThe 53rd RCA General Conference Meeting was held on 13 September 2024 at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, attended by representatives from the RCA GPs, RCA PAC, RCARO and representatives of the IAEA, including Mr Hua Liu, DDG-TC, Najat Mokhtar, DDG-NA, Mr Gashaw Wolde, Section Head of TCAP, and Ms Khemphone Phaokhamkeo, RCA Focal Person. The Meeting reviewed and discussed various policy issues related to the RCA and its Program. The agenda included the implementation of the current RCA programs, update on the RCA Social and Economic Impact Assessment, pathways for new membership to the RCA, report on RCA PAC and report on the activities of the RCARO. The participants shared their views and insights on the recommendations made during the Meeting. The final report and its annexes will be uploaded on the RCA website in due course.

The 39th Meeting of the RCARO SAC was held in Vienna, Austria on 12 September 2024The Meeting of the RCARO Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) was held on 12 September 2024 at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, inviting representatives from Australia, China, the Republic of Korea, India, and the IAEA. The Meeting reviewed the implementation of RCA outreach activities, the expansion of capability-building activities, and partnership programs. The meeting report was presented at the 53rd RCA General Conference Meeting (GCM) for the national representatives’ consideration.
