Final Review Meeting of RAS9092 held virtually on 11-12 Dec. 2024The Final Review Meeting of an RCA project, RAS9092, titled “Strengthening the Capacity to Respond to Radiological Emergency of Category II and III Facilities in the RCA Region” was successfully held virtually on 11-12 December 2024. The opening ceremony featured remarks from Mr Dae Ki KIM, director of the RCA Regional Office, Ms Khemphone Phaokhamkeo, Programme Management Officer, and Mousa Alkaltham, Technical Officer of the project. The Meeting brought together 14 participants including the Lead Country Coordinator (LCC) and National Project Coordinators (NPCs) from 11 Government Parties-Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Pakistan, and Thailand. Over the two-day sessions, participants reviewed the progress and achievements of the project, particularly in enhancing Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) capabilities in the region. Discussions also focused on identifying follow-up activities to address the remaining challenges of capacity-building efforts in the EPR field. Since 2020, RCARO has been participating in RAS9092 as the Lead Country Coordinator (LCC) and supported the project with approximately U$320,000 Extra Budgetary Contribution from the Korean Government.

Hands-on Regional Workshop on eBeam Applications held on 2-6 Dec, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet NamThe Hands-on Regional Workshop on eBeam Applications, held from December 2 to 6, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This event is part of the partnership project between the RCA Regional Office and the Office of Radiological Security (ORS) of the United States Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) titled “Supporting the Adoption of Electron Beam Technology and its Applications in Areas of Food and Agriculture, Industry, Human Health, and Environment Treatment (2024-2028).” Generously hosted by the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM), the event brought together over 80 participants from 19 countries and featured over 18 presentations under the topics ranging from foundational principles of the technology to applications on various sectors. A highlight of the workshop was introductory session on PUFFIn simulation software and the hands-on training at VINAGAMMA, where participants gained practical experience in dose mapping and other essential techniques. Workshop sessions were complemented by engaging discussions that shared lessons learned and good practices across different countries and industries. This blend of theoretical and practical learning provided participants with actionable insights into adopting eBeam technology for socio-economic development. The event also fostered active networking, sparking lively discussions among experts from within and beyond the region. This exchange of ideas is expected to lead to new collaborations, further strengthening the regional network of eBeam practitioners and advancing the adoption of this transformative technology.

Opening Ceremony of the RCA Exhibition held on 27 Nov. 2024 during IAEA's Ministerial Conference,Vienna, AustriaThe RCA held its special exhibition during the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme held on 26-27 November 2024 at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The opening ceremony of the RCA exhibition was held successfully on 27 September 2024 at the RCA booth. Organised by the RCA Regional Office (RCARO), a large audience participated in the event, inclduing the Director General of the IAEA, RCA Chair, National RCA Represetnatives (NRs), other officials from the RCA Government Parties (GPs) and IAEA representatives. The event began with opening remarks by Mr Dae Ki KIM, Director of the RCA Regional Office (RCARO) who introduced the RCA's special exhibition. Ms Lili Xiao, RCA Chair also delivered a wecoming remarks emphasising the committment of the RCA GPs for the region. Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA also offered a contratulatory remarks highlighting the achievements of the RCA and the IAEA's strong support to promote nuclear science and technology in the Asia-Pacific region. The exhibition, which was made possible with the support of the RCA GPs and the IAEA, successfully showcased the RCA's contributions to the prosperity and sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific region. Throughout the week, the exhibition attracted a number of visitors from RCA GPs, stakeholders, and other IAEA Member States attending the Ministerial Conference.

Participation in the Side Event on Electron Beams Technology on 26 Nov. 2024 during the IAEA Ministerial ConferenceA side event on Electron Beams : An Advanced Nulcear Technology for Solving Today's Challenges was held on 26 November during the IAEA's Ministerial Conference held on 26-28 November 2024 at the IAEA Headquarters. Organised by the Uniated States of America, the event explored the electron beam technology and its potential to address many of today's various challenges such as water, food and health area as an advanced technology. The event was successfully held with participation of a large audience from the United States, Republic of Korea and IAEA as well as delegates from IAEA Member States. Mr Dae Ki KIM, Director of the RCA Regional Office also participated in the event to discuss and share views on the electron beam technology and the implemenation of the electron beam project in partnership with the US DOE.
