Wrokshop on RCARO Vision in Jeju, Korea with Local RCA Stakeholders | |||

(15 Nov. 06) In order to have a more concrete vision of RCARO, a Workshop on RCARO Vision was organized by RCARO at Ramada Plaza Hotel in Jeju, Korea for 2 days beginning from 13 November 2006 with participation of some 25 local RCA stakeholders. The main purpose of the Workshop was (1) to view RCARO's role for effective and successful implementation of the on-going and future RCA programme (2) to give advice on the past and present RCARO activities (3) to consider the use of 2007 RCARO fund for new RCARO initiated projects (4) to discuss on enhancing RCA partnership, and (5) to exchange view on enhancing RCARO status.
The meeting attended from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), the Rural Development Administration (RDA), the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (KIRAMS), and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), the Korea Radioisotope Association, Seoul National University (SNU) and Cheju National University (CJNU) and so on.
For effective implementation of the RCA projects, participants of the Workshop stressed the vital importance of proper and timely communication among the RCA stakeholders, in particular between the NR and NPCs. The participants also greatly emphasized the need to build leadership for the RCA stakeholders. They commended past activities of RCARO for increasing RCA awareness and for promoting RCA partnerships, with special acknowledgement on the RCA-UNDP Environment Project. Regarding new initiatives by RCARO, they suggested that human health and agriculture related projects would be high impact. As to the partnerships, the participants recommended to establish RCA partnerships not only UN systems organizations but also related NGOs. The local RCA stakeholders participated in the Workshop pledged to make their efforts to help the RCARO to bring forward meaningful activities in the foreseeable future.
