(6 Sep. 07) Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Ninh and Ms. Grace Carlos, temporary staff of the RCARO from VAEC (Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission) and PNRI (Philippine Nuclear Research Institute), respectively, gave presentations for the RCARO staff on 6 September 2007. Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Ninh elucidated the functions and duties of VAEC, the status of research, development, and peaceful applications of atomic energy in Viet Nam. She pointed out that Viet Nam has actively been involved in various activities for the international nuclear cooperation, adding that Viet Nam currently is a Member State of the IAEA, RCA and FNCA, and Viet Nam signed 5 Governmental Agreements for Cooperation on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy with Russia, China, India, Korea, and Argentina.

Ms. Grace Carlos made a presentation under the title of “Mabuhay Philippines” about the facts and sights of the Philippines, which showcased some of the most fascinating places from all over the 7,100 islands of the country. The presentation also featured a capsule history of the country, its climate, all-time favorite Filipino dishes and some bits of trivia. “Mabuhay” is the Filipino word for “welcome” and “long live.”
