PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide suitable systems and methods for fault detection in emission-guided radiotherapy.SOLUTION: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for monitoring calibration of positron emission tomography (PET) systems. In some variations, the systems include an imaging assembly having a gantry comprising a plurality of positron emission detectors. A housing may be coupled to the gantry, and the housing may include a bore and a radiation source holder spaced away from a patient scan region within the bore. A processor may be configured to receive positron emission data from the positron emission detectors and to distinguish the positron emission data from the radiation source holder and from the patient scan region. A fault signal may be generated when the positron emission data from the radiation source holder exceeds one or more threshold parameters or criteria.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2A

A method of reducing optical aberrations in an optical system includes determining an aberration induced by the optical system. The determining includes transmitting a first beam of radiation having a first wavelength through a wedge system of the optical system. The wedge system includes radiation-curable adhesive disposed between first and second wedges. The determining also includes analyzing the first beam using a detector disposed downstream of the wedge system to determine the aberration. The method also includes curing the radiation-curable adhesive based on the analyzing of the first beam. The curing includes adjusting, using a spatial light modulator, an intensity distribution of a second beam of radiation, having a second wavelength different than the first wavelength, based on the analyzing of the first beam. The curing also includes directing the second beam to the radiation-curable adhesive to induce a position-dependent optical property at the radiation-curable adhesive.

The objective of the present invention is to provide a signal processing device capable of calculating the detection time at which a radiation detection device detects radiation by taking into account the characteristics of the radiation detection device. This signal processing device (3) for processing an output signal from a radiation detection device (2) including a plurality of scintillators, which emit fluorescence according to incident radiation, and a plurality of light-receiving elements, which detect fluorescence, comprises a processor that executes: an identification process for identifying, from the output signal, the detection time at which the light-receiving elements detected the fluorescence emitted by the scintillators and the imparted energy imparted to the light-receiving elements; and a calculation process for calculating, as the detection time at which the radiation detection device detected the fluorescence, a weighted average of the detection times detected by the light-receiving elements, wherein the weights are the n-th power (n is a real number greater than 1) of the energy corresponding to each of the light-receiving elements.

An underground nuclear power reactor system has a hollow blast tunnel which extends from one end of a containment member. The system includes a nuclear reactor vessel and other components that may be positioned on a movable support member or on a bottom wall of the containment member. A blast tunnel, which defines a blast chamber, has a plurality of spaced-apart debris deflectors positioned therein. The blast chamber has an upper wall with a roof opening formed therein which is selectively closed by a roof portion. If the reactor needs to be repaired or replaced, the roof portion is opened so that the reactor vessel can through the roof opening. If the reactor vessel explodes, a blast therefrom drives debris therefrom through a blast door and into the blast chamber where the deflectors reduce blast force as the debris passes through the blast chamber.

The invention provides methods of using chloroplast-selectable markers to detect nuclear genome editing. The methods involve selecting a genetic modification that has occurred in a nuclear genome of a photosynthetic cell; transforming a photosynthetic cell with a ribonucleoprotein complex that effects a genetic modification in the genome in the nucleus of a photosynthetic cell; transforming the photosynthetic cell with a construct that effects an insertion of a selectable marker into the plastome of a plastid of the cell; selecting for photosynthetic cells having the selectable marker inserted into the plastome; and thereby selecting for the genetic modification to the genome in the nucleus of the photosynthetic cell.
