A catheter-disinfecting system can include, in some embodiments, an introducer sheath and a germicidal irradiation means for irradiating a catheter tube of a catheter with germicidal radiation. The introducer sheath can include a sheath body configured to be percutaneously inserted into an insertion site of a patient. The germicidal irradiation means can be configured for irradiating the catheter tube as the catheter tube is inserted into a lumen of the introducer sheath, thereby disinfecting the catheter tube immediately before insertion into the insertion site. A method of disinfecting a catheter such as the foregoing catheter can include inserting the catheter tube into the introducer sheath while the introducer sheath, itself, is percutaneously inserted into the insertion site of the patient; and irradiating the catheter tube with the germicidal radiation while inserting the catheter tube into the introducer sheath.

Exemplary compositions and methods can be used for dermatological laser treatments, by providing suitable interface media between the skin and a source of electromagnetic radiation. The interface medium should act as a refractive index matching agent between the applicator window and the skin, and also reduce the friction between the applicator window and the skin so that the applicator can glide easily on the skin. The optical interface medium exhibits photostability such that optical clarity of the medium is maintained upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation without plasma formation, cavitation, or burning.

A method of detecting radiation from a target object is described that makes use of a radiation detector module including a collimator having a plurality of apertures having a spread angle for emergent radiation. The method exploits this by: associating a target object with an internal radiation source such that radiation emergent from the target object is caused to pass through the collimator to be incident upon a detector; receiving a plurality of responses each being a response to an interaction with incident radiation occurring within the detector; determining, for each of the plurality of responses, a position of each interaction within the detector in three dimensions comprising two area dimensions and a depth dimension; processing the said plurality of responses by simultaneously processing position data in such manner as to obtain information about parts of the target object within an effective field of view that is not directly congruent with the primary field of view.

The disclosure deals with methodology and involved or associated systems for using infrared technology to detect tissue damage below the skin. Pressure and shear stress can damage the microvascular structure below the skin, which is not visible to the naked eye. Infrared thermography is a non-invasive mechanism to measure skin temperature via thermal radiation. Changes (restrictions) in blood flow below the skin can result in microvascular damage to the tissue, and directly impact skin temperature, which can be detected by infrared thermography. Infrared thermography can detect these changes at the site of tissue damage. This disclosure uses affordable infrared thermography to detect changes in temperature related to blood flow alterations, supported with AI. Using serial images, AI can detect an emerging DFU (Diabetic Foot Ulcer) in DM (Diabetes Mellitus) patients through deviations in skin temperature.

A germicidal verification system might comprise a dispersing unit for dispersing a tag composition, wherein the tag composition comprises two or more tags, a tag comprising a nonpathogenic portion having a particular range of sensitivity to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, wherein not all tags of the two or more tags have the same range of sensitivity. A dispersed tag composition, dispersed into an environment, can be collected after being exposed at least in part to some UV radiation in the environment. By measuring amounts of the two or more tags in the collected tag composition, wherein measurements of the measurement unit of a given tag depend on an amount of sensitivity to UV exposure of the given tag, effectiveness of UV radiation as a germicide could be measured. Relative degradation among tags can be measured and used as a proxy for, among other things, pathogens in the environment.
