The invention concerns a steam cracking installation (120) for steam cracking hydrocarbons, comprising a steam cracking unit (10) comprising a convection zone (10a) and a radiation zone (10b), said radiation zone (10b) being equipped with burners (12), with at least one gas supply duct (14, 16) for providing said burners with at least one gas chosen from oxidizing gas (13) and fuel gas (15) The installation further comprises a renewable thermal assembly (50) adapted to produce thermal energy (51) and to transfer the thermal energy produced to said at least one gas (13, 15) circulating within the at least one gas supply duct. The installation is operated at least in a first operation mode (A), in which the renewable thermal assembly (50) produces thermal energy (51), in particular in sufficient quantities to heat the gas to a target temperature, and the said at least one gas (13, 15) circulating within said at least one gas supply duct (14, 16) is heated to a target temperature before its entry into said burners by at least a part of the thermal energy produced by the renewable thermal assembly. The CO2 emissions of the installation is reduced by heating the gas provided to the burners using renewable thermal energy.
