    An audio system comprises a plurality of membranes within an enclosure. A first surface of each membrane is part of a shared back volume within the enclosure and pressure within the shared back volume is configured to be isobaric. A second surface of each membrane is part of a front volume within the enclosure that includes a plurality of ports. A controller of the audio system is configured to drive the plurality of membranes. In a mode of operation, the controller is configured to match audio output between the plurality of ports, forming pressure waves of equal amplitude and opposite phase and generating a substantially dipole or linear quadrupole sound wave radiation pattern for frequencies above a predefined threshold and mismatch audio output between the plurality of ports for frequencies at or below the predefined threshold to generate a substantially monopole or cardioid sound wave radiation pattern.

    Interstitial brachytherapy is a cancer treatment in which radioactive material is placed directly in the target tissue of the affected site using an afterloader. The accuracy of this placement is monitored in real time using a urinary catheter that locates the radioactive material according to the radiation levels measured by sensors in the walls of the urinary catheter. A scintillator that is embedded in the walls of the urinary catheter produces light when irradiated by the radioactive material. This light is proportional to the level of radiation at each location. The light produced by each scintillator is carried through optical fibers and then converted to an electrical signal that is proportional to the light and the radiation level at each location. The radioactive material is located according to the plurality of electrical signals. This location can be used as quality control feedback to the afterloader.

    An energy storage system converts variable renewable electricity (VRE) to continuous heat at over 1000° C. Intermittent electrical energy heats a solid medium. Heat from the solid medium is delivered continuously on demand. An array of bricks incorporating internal radiation cavities is directly heated by thermal radiation. The cavities facilitate rapid, uniform heating via reradiation. Heat delivery via flowing gas establishes a thermocline which maintains high outlet temperature throughout discharge. Gas flows through structured pathways within the array, delivering heat which may be used for processes including calcination, hydrogen electrolysis, steam generation, and thermal power generation and cogeneration. Groups of thermal storage arrays may be controlled and operated at high temperatures without thermal runaway via deep-discharge sequencing. Forecast-based control enables continuous, year-round heat supply using current and advance information of weather and VRE availability. High-voltage DC power conversion and distribution circuitry improves the efficiency of VRE power transfer into the system.

In some embodiments, a metalens includes an array of passive deflector elements with varying diameters that extend from a substrate with a repeating pattern of deflector element diameters. Interelement on-center spacings of the passive deflector elements may be selected as a function of an operational wavelength of the optical metalens. Each passive deflector element has a height and a width that are each less than a smallest wavelength within the operational bandwidth. An electronic display may include a multi-pixel light-emitting diode (LED) display, such as an RGB LED display. A metalens comprising a plurality of metalens subpixels may deflect the optical radiation from each corresponding LED subpixel at a target deflection angle. Each metalens subpixel may include a two-dimensional array of passive deflector elements in a repeating pattern of deflector element diameters.

    Described are a carbon-iodine conjugated polymer and preparation thereof, an imaging marker thereof, and uses thereof for preparing a localization marker, and belongs to the technical field of imaging markers. The conjugated structure enables the polymer to have strong absorption in a visible light region, and high iodine content of up to 84.1% corresponds to the strong imaging ability thereof. During surgery, on the basis of the dual guidance of a polymer-based image marker and naked eye observation, the marker can better facilitate determination of tumor resection margins, achieving precise resection of tumors and minimizing damage to surrounding normal tissues. During cyberknife-based treatment, the polymer can replace clinical gold markers to provide ray marker guidance. Absence of metal artifacts improves ray imaging quality and the accuracy of radiation dose distribution, good biocompatibility enhances the stability of the relative position of the marker, and radiotherapy side effects can be further reduced.

The peripheral electrodes are placed at positions that are symmetrical with respect to at least either of a first direction parallel to the first polarization direction and a second direction orthogonal to the first polarization direction.
