    Described herein is a compact combined active and passive cooling system to cool electronic audio-video circuitry, wherein all of the AV circuitry and cooling system fits within an enclosure that can be installed in a standard wall gang-box located in interior walls of structures. The combined active and passive cooling system uses convection, conduction, and radiation in active and passive cooling modes to dissipate heat generated by the AV circuitry into the room in which the gang box is located, and further uses the wall plate surface to dissipate heat into the room.

    InxAlyGa1-x-yN semiconductor structures having optoelectronic elements characterized by epitaxial layers having different in-plane a-lattice parameters and different InN mole fractions are disclosed. The active regions are configured to emit radiation in different wavelength ranges and are characterized by strain states within about 1% to 2% of compressive strain. The epitaxial layers are grown on patterned InxAlyGa1-x-yN seed regions on a single substrate, where the relaxed InGaN growth layers provide (0001) InxAlyGa1-x-yN growth surfaces characterized by different in-plane a-lattice parameters and different InN mole fractions. InxAlyGa1-x-yN semiconductor structures can be used in optoelectronic devices such as in light sources for illumination and in display applications.

    A method for isolating plastic products produced by polymerization of resin with proton beams is disclosed. The method comprises a liquid resin added with a reactive dye that changes from transparent or colorless to color when activated by the proton beam or the chemical polymerization process to reveal polymerization within a polymerizable resin. The change in color is correlated to the energy delivered to the resin by a proton beam, electromagnetic radiation, or heat. The reactive dye is placed into a plastic container. The proton beam is directed into the container to polymerize the resin. When irradiation is complete, the container of frozen resin is opened at the top and bottom and placed on top of the column of water containing a density gradient provided by dissolved salt. The partially cured product is fully cured while suspended in the density gradient by application of heat or ultraviolet radiation.

The method includes mixing the first coating composition and the one or more additional coating compositions at the ultrasonic discharge nozzle of the coating apparatus, and applying the mixture of the first coating composition and the one or more additional coating compositions to at least a portion of the optical article so as to provide a pattern on the optical article upon exposure to actinic radiation. The mixture of the first coating composition and the one or more additional coating compositions is applied from the ultrasonic discharge nozzle as a controlled, predetermined pattern of atomized droplets.

    A method and apparatus are provided. In an example, a volume portion of the solid body is exposed to light waves of different wavelengths, wherein the light waves are partly reflected at surfaces of the solid body. Light parameters of the reflected light waves are at least partly acquired using a sensor device. Distance information and/or intensity information are/is ascertained from at least a portion of the acquired light parameters. A thickness and/or a transmittance of the solid body in the volume portion are/is determined based upon the distance information and/or the intensity information. Laser radiation is introduced into the volume portion to produce a modification in the interior of the solid body, wherein at least one laser parameter of the laser radiation is set at least depending on the thickness and/or the transmittance such that the modification is at a predefined distance from a surface of the solid body.

    A marker system includes an enclosure with a controller therewithin. Emitters are electrically interfaced to the controller and include visible wavelength emitters and infrared wavelength emitters. The controller is configured to selectively initiate a flow of electric current though the visible wavelength emitters or through the infrared wavelength emitters causing the visible wavelength emitters or the infrared wavelength emitters to emit light and the light passes through the enclosure. There is at least one infrared detector, each of which is electrically interfaced to the controller and each of which is configured to detect infrared light that enters the enclosure. When the controller receives an electrical signal from any of the at least one infrared detector indicating reception of infrared light, the controller emits a signal to warn of the reception of infrared light (e.g., an audible signal, a vibration, a wireless signal, a wired signal).
