In RCA Member States, livestock farming is one of the most important provisions and income resources for the farmers. Due to inadequate feeding, prevalence of diseases and other mismanagement practices, however, the productivity is below its potential. Accordingly, IAEA launched a new programme aiming to improve livestock productivity as well as conserving the environment in the region. In this regard, the project coordination meeting on “Integrated Approach for Improving Livestock Production Using Indigenous Resources and Conserving the Environment” will be held in Xichang and Beijing, China in 18-29 April 2005.

This newly organized project is expected to improve animal productivity and decrease discharges of selected greenhouse gases and selected nutrients into the environment through feed manipulation and manure management. More specifically, this project coordination meeting will share experiences with other collaborating scientists from the region and review current status of activities. Furthermore, participants will develop detailed work plans for individual groups and identify specific inputs for each participating Member States.
Local organizer: the Government of China through the Chinese Academy Agricultural Sciences.
