RCARO-BRIN Strategic Workshop, Feb 27-March 1, IndonesiaFrom 27th February to 1st March 2024, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Regional Cooperative Agreement Regional Office (RCARO) conducted a workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia, to foster cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. This event is a continuation of discussions initiated during the workshop held in Korea in January, stemming from a commitment made through a Letter of Intent at the 67th IAEA General Conference. The workshop saw distinguished delegates from both sides, including Mr. LT. Handoko, Chairman of BRIN, and Mr. Dae-Ki KIM, Director of RCARO, engage in comprehensive discussions across various nuclear-related domains. The agenda was particularly tailored to address the priority areas highlighted by BRIN, featuring insightful presentations and guided tours of facilities to showcase collaborative activities in nuclear science and technology, with a special focus on aligning with Indonesia's strategic interests. RCARO is focused on addressing the national and regional needs of the member countries, thereby increasing the visibility and viability of the RCA.

RCARO participated in the 24th FNCA Coordinators Meeting, 11-13 Mar. 2024, JapanRCARO participated in the 24th FNCA Coordinators Meeting, 11-13 Mar. 2024, Japan Represented by Mr Dae Ki KIM, Director, RCA Regional Office (RCARO) participated in the 24th FNCA Coordinators Meeting (CDM) held on 11-13 March 2024 in Tokyo, Japan. The Meeting was attended by the national coordinators and relevant stakeholders of the FNCA member countries for the purpose of assessing the progress of the FNCA projects and discussing the future FNCA activities. In line with the recommendation by the 37th RCA General Conference Meeting (GCM)*, Mr KIM presented on the overview of the RCA and its Programme as well as suggested possible cooperation between the RCA and the FNCA that could contribute to making synergies between the two bodies. The participants agreed that the RCA-FNCA collaboration will become an effective tool in promoting the nuclear science and technology in the Asia-Pacific region. Based on the discussion shared during the Meeting, RCARO will continue to consult with relevant counterparts of the RCA and FNCA to foster cooperation between the two bodies. *The 37th RCA GCM (2007) recommended that the Director of RCARO represent the RCA at FNCA CDMs. Since then, RCARO has been participating in the meeting annually to present on the RCA activities and discuss potential cooperation between the RCA and FNCA.

Visit of Mr. Gashaw Wolde to the RCA Regional OfficeMr. Gashaw Wolde, Section Head in the Division for Asia and the Pacific at the IAEA's Department of Technical Cooperation visited the RCA Regional Office. Mr. Wolde and the RCARO shared views on strengthening the relationship between the IAEA and the RCARO and developing Human Resources for the RCA.

Introductory Workshop on In-Situ Radiation Detection Demonstration and Basic Gamma Spectrometry Technique for Enhancing Emergency Preparedness and Response CapabilitiesIntroductory Workshop on In-Situ Radiation Detection Demonstration and Basic Gamma Spectrometry Technique for Enhancing Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities, February 20-21, 2024, Virtual The Introductory Workshop on In-Situ Radiation Detection Demonstration and Basic Gamma Spectrometry Technique for Enhancing Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities, was held virtually from February 20th to 21st, 2024. During the opening ceremony, Mr KIM Dae Ki, Director of RCA Regional Office, and Mr Phonesavanh Lathdavong, National RCA Representative of Laos, delivered opening and welcoming remarks. This event marked a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders in the region. With over fifty (50) participants in attendance, including representatives from the RCA Regional Office, Project Lead Country Coordinators, experts, and stakeholders from nine (9) ASEAN countries and Korea, the workshop served as a platform for robust discussions and insights. The engaging sessions on the first day (February 20th) delved into critical topics such as in-situ gamma-ray measurement for dose and radioactivity assessment, along with fundamental concepts in radiation physics. These insightful talks were delivered by experts from the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS). On the second day (February 21st), participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding with the third and final lecture, which focused on the basic gamma spectrometry technique, presented by the National Environment Agency of Singapore.
