IAEA/RCA Technical Meeting on New Techniques in Sealed Sources & Radiotracer Preparation, Interjection and Data Logging will be held in 9-13 May 2005 in Islamabad, Pakistan in cooperation with the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH).

Over the years, radiotracers and sealed sources have been utilized as diagnostic tools in various disciplines of science and technology, particularly in industrial sector. Economic and employment benefits of the use of radioisotopes in industry estimated to several million USD per year does indicate important and competitive role of radioisotopes in industrial growth.

The establishment of the quality control and accreditation system in radioisotope application is strongly related with standard experimental design and high professional performance. It is asked for radioisotope practitioners and application groups to upgrade and update their facilities, skills and procedures for better designing radioisotope experiments and faster delivering their services. Sharing experiences in this field is one of the best ways to promise the success of radioisotope application region wide.

At this meeting, focus will be made on building up competence and expertise necessary to national regulatory authorities for the establishment and operation of an adequate regulatory programme in controlling of cyclotron facilities. Moreover, the regulatory programme shall be in accordance with the principles, requirements and recommendations of International Standards. Practical experiences such as the system of notification, authorization and inspection of cyclotron facilities are also expected to be covered.
