RCA Research Reactor I&C Technical Meeting Next Generation I&C Technology Also Stressed Opened 3 May for 5 Days Discussion

IAEA/RCA Technical Meeting on Research Reactor Instrumentation and Control (I&C) opened on 3 May 2004 at KAERI for a 5-day discussion. At the meeting, experts from IAEA and participating RCA Member States will discuss and share the experience of I&C systems in the existing research reactors in their countries and also look into the design and implementation techniques of I&C systems for new research reactors to be built in the region. The participants reiterated the essential role of I&C systems in improving and enhancing the operation and utilization of research reactors and their wish to contribute to this effect.

At the opening in the morning of 3 May, Mr Kim, Jin-Kyoung, Director, RCARO, gave a congratulatory remarks and elevated RCARO's mandate and functions. Dr Kyung-Bae Park, Vice-President of KAERI, on behalf of the host institute, welcomed the participants and introduced new advancement in I&C technology of KAERI both for power reactors and research reactors. He hoped that the new I&C technologies can widely be used by RCA Member States when preparing upgradation or modification plan for research reactors operating with old I&C systems. Mr S. Paranjpe, IAEA Technical Officer for RCA Research Reactor project, emphasized the fact that good utilization of research reactors would only be available by good operation.
