RCARO Director Selection Meeting 13 June 2004 at RCARO Office in Daejeon 5-Member Selection Committee Develops Vacancy Notice

A 5-member committee to select a new Director of RCARO had its first meeting on 13 June 2004 at RCARO office in Daejeon, Korea to develop the job description and the vacancy notice for inviting a Director from Member States. The Selection Committee was constituted at the 26th Meeting of National RCA Representatives in Pakistan in April 2004 to invite a RCARO Director from Member States who will be formally functioning after the interim operational period of RCARO.

RCARO has been operated on an interim basis since its inception in March 2002. During this interim operation, it was requested that RCARO would make necessary legal provisions that would enable an independent and autonomy operation of RCARO in Korea. RCA Member States agreed that RCARO's interim operational period would be 3 years beginning from March 2002. Member States also agreed that during this period, a Korean appointed Director would discharge the assigned duties, including management and administration of RCARO.

Members of the Selection Committee are 1 from the host country of RCARO (Korea), 1 from IAEA, and 3 from the Member States recommended by the RCARO Advisory Committee. They are, 1) Dr Chung-Won Cho, Director General, Atomic Energy Bureau, Ministry of Science and Technology, Korea 2) Dr Prinath Dias, RCA Coordinator, IAEA 3) Dr John F Easey, Senior Principal Research Scientist, ANSTO, Australia 4) Dr Anil Kumar Anand, Scientific Consultant, Academia Industry Interaction, Office of Principal Scientific Advisory to the Government of India, and 5) Dr Corazon C Bernido, Deputy Director, Philippine Nuclear Research Institute.

The job description and the vacancy notice developed by the Selection Committee will be reported by the Chair of the RCARO Advisory Committee to the 33th RCA General Conference Meeting in Vienna in September 2004 for endorsement. The vacancy notice will be advertised in October 2004 for application by end of February 2005.
