IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Radiological Risk Assessment will be held in 19-23 June 2006 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in cooperation with the Government of Indonesia through the National Energy Agency (BATAN).

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) had developed a model for assessing radiological consequences (RadCon) which allows consequence analysis for various groups of people including women and children, taking into account local environmental and social parameters.

Coupled with this model, this training course has the objective to develop the capacity in Member States to assess the consequences of accidental radioactive release scenarios in order to take countermeasure to minimize the radiation doses to the affected population. The models used for this purpose should be based on accurate atmospheric and transport parameters and appropriate factors related to dose calculations. Accordingly, the course will provide specific training on radiological risk assessment. It will cover the development of source terms, how to introduce meteorology, atmospheric and aquatic dispersion processes and provide an overview and practice in the use of mathematical radiological consequences models.

Participants are expected to achieve, first, an enhanced knowledge of radiological dispersion and consequence analysis, second, an introduction to source term calculations, meteorology and atmospheric and aquatic dispersion processes, third, practical experience in the use of the RadCon and other related computer codes.
