IAEA/RCA has been endeavoring to contribute to Member States in developing infrastructure for radiological emergency planning, preparedness and response through its thematic sector activities of Radiation Protection.
As one of the activities for the project, a Regional Training Course (RTC) on "Extended Response to a Radiological Incident by Radiological Assessors” will be held in Beijing, China in 16-27 October 2006.
The objective of the course is to provide radiological assessors with the knowledge needed to assess a radiological incident when occurred and make recommendations to an incident commander on radiological protection of responders (including law enforcement/forensics), victims and members of the public. .
The IAEA has developed a First Responders Manual and associated training material and are currently delivering that material to the Regions. An extended response manual and training materials targeted at radiological assessors is also under development. This course is focused on developing these capabilities within the RCA Region. The field exercise held in the Republic of Korea earlier this year was also one of the activities under this project. This Beijing training course, targeted at radiological assessors, is a pilot training course, which will contribute to the further development of the draft IAEA extended response manual and associated training materials through practice, interaction and feedback on the content of the draft manual and training materials.
As a pilot training course, each participant will be expected to provide feedback on the content and appropriateness of the training materials and support documentation.
