RCARO and PEMSEA (Partnership in Environment Management for the Seas in East Asia) are jointly convening a seminar on Radioisotope Technology for Coastal and Ocean Management on 13 December 2006 at People's Assembly Hall in Haikou of Hainan Province, China during the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress 2006.
The seminar will take place as an event under the theme of "Applying Management-Related Science and Technology" within the framework of "International Conference on Coastal and Ocean Governance" that will be held during 12-14 December at the same venue of the EAS Congress. The International Conference comprises 7 themes, i.e. 1) Communities in Sustainable Development 2) Securing the Ocean 3) Ecosystem-based Management: From River Basins to Coastal Seas 4) Certifying Sustainability 5) Shipping and Cleaner Oceans 6) Local Government Financing for Water, Sewage and Sanitation, and 7) Applying Management-Related Science and Technology. It is noted that participation in the PEMSEA international conference by RCA through co-convening a seminar by RCARO and with the topic of nuclear techniques would be first such occasion in the RCA milestone. RCA is greatly encouraging the participation of RCA stakeholders in international development conferences in order to increase RCA visibility and promote RCA viability.
At the RCARO/PEMSEA seminar, Dr Ronald Szymczak of ANSTO, Australia will make a keynote presentation on the 'Development and Application of Coastal Eco-system Contaminant Management Tools using Nuclear and Isotopic Techniques'. There will be 6 papers to be presented followed by a panel discussion.
