Diplomatic mission representatives of RCA Member States stationed in Korea again expressed their great interest in IAEA/RCA programme and their support for RCARO activities. The briefing meeting was held on 13 October 2004 at Palace Hotel in Seoul. RCARO arranged the meeting mainly to brief outcomes from the 33rd RCA General Conference Meeting in Vienna in September 2004 and to promote enhanced awareness of RCA/RCARO activities.
RCA Member States’ diplomatic mission representatives from Australia to Viet Nam in-charge of science and technology and economic affairs participated in the meeting. RCARO briefed major outcomes from the 33rd RCA General Conference Meeting held at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna on 22 September 2004. Adoption of the revised ‘RCA Guidelines and Operating Rules’ that reflected the roles and responsibilities of the Director of RCARO, RCA Lead Country Coordinators and RCA Chair was explained. They were also briefed on general outlines on IAEA/RCA 2005-06 cycle regional co-operative projects, in particular those projects that need extra-budgetary contributions from Member States.
Mission representatives expressed their interest and support for RCA’s contribution to the socio-economic development of the region through amplified use of advantageous radiation technologies. They also viewed that the idea to have RCA Ministerial Level Meeting would significantly enhance RCA profile. The meeting commended RCARO activities, in particular, the RCA information increasing programme and the nuclear knowledge preservation projects. RCARO has been organizing the briefing meeting at least twice a year in connection with the RCA General Conference Meeting and the National RCA Representatives Meeting in the region.
